The South Florida “grassroots” Foundation was founded and began providing aid to the needy of Western Palm Beach County. Our Food Program began in Palm Beach County to feed the poor in Pahokee and Canal Point.
The Miami Herald “Wish List” was completely funded by our South Florida Foundation.
South Florida Foundation changes its name to New Hope Foundation. Our first Advisory Board was formed.
Vandergrift-Williams 40 acre farm, south of Pahokee, was leased to New Hope for $1 per year. Plans prepared to convert farm house into Child Development Center. Chapel created on site. We had our first Holiday Bazaar Fundraiser held at the home of Cathie and Andres Fanjul.
New Hope’s Child Development Center renovations were completed and the Redlands Christian Migrant Association was chosen to operate the center. Sixty-five children received subsidized childcare. First grant from Children’s Services Counsel was received for our Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program. Our first annual Christmas Toy Giveaway provides 300 toys to needy children.
The old tractor barn was converted into our Youth Center. The “Single Point of Contact Strategy” is adopted to provide as many programs and services to the community as possible at our Family Center site. The budget doubles for New Hope’s charitable work.
Seventy-five children are enrolled in our After-School and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Programs. Our Food Program now feeds 100 families in the Glades’ and surrounding communities.
A collaborative program is developed with Western Mental Health to provide a Family Strengthening Program to the surrounding community. Our Food Program expands to 130 families. A total of 130 children are now served at our Family Center site. Our budget doubles again.
New Hope becomes a United Way of Palm Beach County agency. Our football field is completed and New Hope children participate in an organized baseball league. The Literacy Program is started at our center to improve reading skills. 200,000 pounds of food and clothing are provided by New Hope to hurricane victims in the Dominican Republic.
Our first Summer Camp is held at New Hope’s Family Center. Our Lending library and Computer Learning Lab opened at our Family Center. Planning begins for a new Health and Education Center.
The University of Florida begins a collaborative Nutrition Program for children. Our Economics Program is implemented to improve reading and financial literacy skills. Children in summer camp are taken on the first field trip to Disney World. Our Food Program increased to serving 150 families. The Family Center and Youth building are destroyed by a hurricane.
The Glades Academy Charter Elementary School is formed by a grant from New Hope, and 100 local students are enrolled. Our Family Center services and programs expand. An adult ESOL class is formed at our Family Center serving 31 students. Our Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway distributes 1,000 toys to needy children. 232 young women have completed our Teenage Pregnancy Prevention program with no reported pregnancies in the community with a 33% teen pregnancy rate. Rebuilding of The Youth Center is completed. Our Food Program expanded to serve 200 families.
Everglades Preparatory Academy High School opens with 100 students by a grant from New Hope. Our 3rd Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway provides over 2,400 toys to economically disadvantaged children.
The Plat Approval and Contract were signed to begin construction of our new Health and Education Center.
The number of families participating in our Food Distribution Program increases to 225. New Hope Charities becomes licensed by the Department of Health. Palm Beach County gives final approval for construction of our Health & Education Center.
New Hope continues with our good work. Construction of the Health & Education Center and new parking lot begins.
Number of youth we serve doubles. Construction of the Health & Education Center was completed in July, and the Grand Opening was held October 19, 2006. Construction of a new basketball court is completed.
All time high number of New Hope kids (15) to make Honor Roll. Three students at New Hope receive college scholarships. Chelsea Morrison Health Clinic opens in collaboration with a local physician. The Palm Beach County Library System establishes a “book drop” library at our Family Center, including a visiting Book Mobile. New Hope establishes an in-kind office at our Family Center for “Take Stock in Children” agency. New Hope Charities has achieved full compliance with all mandatory standards of non-profit management as certified by The Center for Non-Profit Excellence.
Our Food Program remains strong, consistently offering food to 225 families each month, plus 250 turkeys during the holidays. We offer daily snacks to over 65 children in our out-of-school programs, and continue to offer nutrition classes. Our annual Toy Give-Away left smiles on over 2,000 young faces as Santa handed out toys. Our 15th annual Holiday Bazaar on December 19th was a wonderful fundraising success. New Hope Charities is certified by Non-Profits First for sound non-profit management.
In a recessed economy, we are receiving more requests for basic needs, such as food. The Children’s Services Council cuts one-third of our budget as part of restructuring. Our overall funding has been cut considerably in comparison to prior years. Efforts to collaborate with the Palm Beach County Healthcare District begin in order to offer free healthcare to the community through our on-site clinic. We are currently soliciting funds and grants to establish a children’s soccer team, to enlarge our family Food Program, and to increase the services we offer by an additional 30 clients.
New Hope Charities was accredited by The Council on Accreditation (COA). COA gives recognition to outstanding providers of human services, providing quality care and programs to improve the community. Efforts to collaborate with the Florida Community Health Centers began in order to offer free healthcare to the community through our on-site clinic. Florida Department of Children and Families granted New Hope Charities a Golden Seal Certificate.
