New Hope provides after school activities for up to 95 local area youth ranging in age from 7-14 years of age. During the regular school year, the program is open to students for three and half-hours each day. All transportation to and from the family center is provided free of charge to children enrolled in the program. Acceptance to the program is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Health and nutrition classes are provided once per week. Students are provided information on nutrition, proper hygiene and dental care.
Upon arriving at the center students are provided homework assistance for one hour. Students requiring further assistance are provided individual tutoring.
The Palm Beach County Library System has designated New Hope as a "book drop site" which enable us to offer our students a broad variety of books. In addition, the Bookmobile visits the Family Center every two weeks.
Students attending the after-school program at New Hope Charities have an opportunity to rotate through our computer learning center on a daily basis.
Arts & crafts activities are offered three times a week and students can choose from a variety of projects.
Students participate in daily in-door and out-door recreational activities such as soccer, volleyball, flag football, kickball, Ping-Pong, pool and basketball.
All students attend literacy classes once a week. Projects include; word association games, essay writing, word puzzles, and word recognition exercises.
This program is designed to introduce our children to the concepts of money management and banking. Students earn tokens for positive behaviors such as, reading books or helping with clean up. Students are assigned "bank" accounts into which they deposit or withdraw tokens earned. The tokens are used to purchase items such as, toys, portable radios and many other items from a merchandise cabinet located in the youth center.
The goal of this program is to increase the number of books read by our students. As an incentive to read, tokens are awarded based on the number of pages read. Since this program began (November 1999) the students have read thousands of books.
New Hope Charities offers a full-time five day-a-week summer camp for sixty-five local area youth. Activities include weekly field trips, recreational activities, arts & crafts and more.
